GENERAL QUESTIONS

What are the BASIC requirements TO BECOME unarmed security guard in georgia
  1. You must be a US Citizen or Registered Resident Alien (Green Card Holder)
  2. You must be 18 years or older
  3. You must have a High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
  4. You must have a Valid Driver's License or Valid State ID
  5. You must obtain an Original Copy of a (Recent; within 7 Days) Criminal Background Check by a (Local Law Enforcement Agency)                                                                                          PLEASE NOTE: You must not have been Convicted of a Felony or any other Crime involving Illegal Use, Carrying or Possession of a Dangerous Weapon, or any Crime involving Acts of Fraud or other Violent Crime
  6. You must complete the minimum 24 HR Classroom Basic Training Program per Georgia Code 509-03-02 
  7. Unarmed security guards are not required to be registered but are required to be trained in accordance with the Rules of the Private Detective and Security Agencies Board.  
WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS TO BECOME AN ARMED SECURITY OFFICER IN GEORGIA
  1. You must be a US Citizen or Registered Resident Alien (Green Card Holder)
  2. You must have a High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
  3. You must have a Valid Driver's License or Valid State ID
  4. You must obtain an Original Copy of a (Recent; within 7 Days) Criminal Background Check by a (Local Law Enforcement Agency)                                                                                          PLEASE NOTE: You must not have been Convicted of a Felony or any other Crime involving Illegal Use, Carrying or Possession of a Dangerous Weapon, or any Crime involving Acts of Fraud or other Violent Crime
  5. You must complete the minimum 16 HR Armed Security Guard Classroom Instruction and Range Qualification in addition to the 24 HR Basic Security Guard Classroom Instruction training. 
  6. A minimum passing score of 80% must be achieved on a written exam
  7. A minimum passing score of 80% must be achieved on the firing range, proctored by a firearms instructor licensed by the Board.
  8. To work as an Armed Guard you will need a Security Guard License aka Blue Card in the State of Georgia. To be employed as an armed security guard with a licensed company, you must be at least 21 years of age and must meet the minimum requirements established by the Board, as detailed in O.C.G.A. 43-38-7 and O.C.G.A. 43-38-10.  The company is responsible for your training by a Board-approved instructor; however, you may attend Board-approved training classes on your own prior to being hired by a licensed company. The company must submit an Application for Employee Registration on your behalf within 30 days of your hiring.
What ARE THE TRAINING requirements FOR PRIVATE DETECTIVES & WHAT IS REQUIRED to be employed as a private investigator?
  1. You must be 18 years or older
  2. You must be a U.S. Citizen or Registered Resident Alien
  3. You must be of good moral character
  4. You must have a Valid Driver's License or Valid State ID
  5. You must obtain an Original Copy of a (Recent; within 7 Days) Criminal Background Check by a (Local Law Enforcement Agency)                                                                                          PLEASE NOTE: You must not have been Convicted of a Felony or any other Crime involving Illegal Use, Carrying or Possession of a Dangerous Weapon, or any Crime involving Acts of Fraud or other Violent Crime
  6. You must complete a minimum 70 HR Classroom Instruction Basic Training Program for private detective license holders and registered private detective employees per Georgia Rule 509-3-06
  7. You must meet the minimum requirements established by the Board, as detailed in O.C.G.A. 43-38-7                                    PLEASE NOTE: The company that hires you is responsible for your training by a Board-approved instructor; however, you may attend Board-approved training classes on your own prior to being hired by a licensed company. The company must submit an Application for Employee Registration on your behalf within 30 days of your hiring.
  8. All applicants who want to work as a Private Detective Employee for a Licensed Company must take the exam for Private Detective and/or Security Agency as mandated by Board Rules including Veteran Law Enforcement Officers and Active Peace Officers.                                                                  PLEASE NOTE: According to the provisions of O.C.G.A. 43-38-14(b)(2) , An active person with a peace officer certification issued in accordance with the “Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Act” must be registered as a private detective employee to work for a licensed company. The person may work as a registered employee for a licensed company with the weapon issued by the agency for which the person works as a peace officer, as long as the agency does not object.
  9. You may be employed by more than one company at the same time.  Each company must submit an Application for Employee Registration on your behalf. ​
 WHAT ARE THE QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED TO GET A GEORGIA BLUE CARD?
  1. You must be a US Citizen or Registered Resident Alien (Green Card Holder)
  2. You must be 18 years or older
  3. You must have a High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
  4. You must have a Valid Driver's License or Valid State ID
  5. You must obtain an Original Copy of a (Recent; within 7 Days) Criminal Background Check by a (Local Law Enforcement Agency)                                                                                          PLEASE NOTE: You must not have been Convicted of a Felony or any other Crime involving Illegal Use, Carrying or Possession of a Dangerous Weapon, or any Crime involving Acts of Fraud or other Violent Crime
  6. You must have completed both the 24 HR Basic Security Guard Course and the 16 HR Armed Security 
  7. A Georgia Blue Card can only be requested through a licensed security company. Security guards who are employed for more than one company must have a blue card for each of these companies.The hiring company is responsible for your training by a Board-approved instructor; however, you may attend Board-approved training classes on your own prior to being hired by a licensed company. The company must submit an Application for Employee Registration on your behalf within 30 days of your hiring.  
WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS FOR SHOTGUN TRAINING
  1. You must 21 years or older
  2. You must be a US Citizen or Registered Resident Alien (Green Card Holder)
  3. You must have a High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
  4. You must have a Valid Driver's License or Valid State ID
  5. You must obtain an Original Copy of a (Recent; within 7 Days) Criminal Background Check by a (Local Law Enforcement Agency)                                                                                          PLEASE NOTE: You must not have been Convicted of a Felony or any other Crime involving Illegal Use, Carrying or Possession of a Dangerous Weapon, or any Crime involving Acts of Fraud or other Violent Crime
  6. Must complete a minimum 2 HR Georgia Course per Georgia Rule 509-3-08 in addition to the 24 HR Unarmed Guard Training Program and 16 Hr Armed Guard Training Program
  7. ​You must achieve a minimum passing score of 80% on the firing range proctored by a Georgia Board Approved Firearms Instructor 
WHAT ARE the requirements for continuing eductation
  1. Security Officers -  Registered security employees must have eight (8) hours of continuing education every two (2) years in addition to the annual weapon re-qualification requirements. (Per Georgia Rule 509-3-12)
  2. Private Detective - private detective employees must obtain sixteen (16) hours of continuing education every two (2) years, in addition to the annual weapon re-qualification requirements.
  3. Weapons - Private Detectives and Security Officers must qualify annually with their weapon
What is the process for active law enforcement officers to be registered as an armed security guard for a private security company?​
​In accordance with the provisions of O.C.G.A. 43-38-14 (b), a person with a valid peace officer certification issued in accordance with the “GA Peace Officer Standards and Training Act” who is employed by or works as an independent contractor for a licensed private security company must be registered by the company with the Board as an armed security guard.  The person is exempt from the required security officer training mandated by the Board, and the person is not required to obtain a weapon permit issued by the Board, although a registration must be obtained from the Board.  The person is allowed to work as an armed security guard for the licensed company with the weapon issued by the law enforcement agency for which the person is employed, as long as the agency has no objection.
what are the training requirements for weapons for law enforcement officers?
Law enforcement officers who are trained in accordance with POST requirements are exempt from this requirement; however, the officer must have an active POST certification and current weapons training certification. 
Can a private detective or security guard use the weapon permit issued by the Probate Court while on duty?​
​No, the weapon permit issued by the Probate Court is not a valid permit while a private investigator or security guard is on duty.  You must have a weapon permit issued by the Board to carry a weapon while on duty, unless you are an active peace officer working for a licensed private detective or security company.
How often am I required to qualify with my weapon?
Annually. Private detectives and security officers must qualify annually with their weapon.

TRAINING PROGRAM QUESTIONS

what are the requirements to enter the ARCANE AFFILIATION AGENCY TRAINING program?
  1. ​You must be 18 years or older
  2. You must complete a Background Check prior to entering our Training Program per Georgia State Law.​PLEASE NOTE: You must obtain your background check; we will send you out for it. We will provide you the information of where to go, and the cost. The background check it self takes less than 1 hour to get the results back.
  3. Return the Sealed Results to our office
  4. Fill out the Pre-Registration Application in office
  5. Once you have met the criteria and other basic requirements per our company standards you will be allowed to enter the Training Program
  6. Pay the PRE-REGISTRATION FEE to reserve your seat
  7. Select your Class Dates
  8. Show up promptly for classes.
PLEASE NOTE: You must PAY the remaining balance of the Training Program at the start of your first class or prior to the beginning of your first class.

HOW MUCH IS THE PRE-REGISTRATION FEE?
The Pre-Registration fee is fifty ($50) dollars, it is Non-Refundable and required to reserve your seat for upcoming classes.
​It will be deducted from the remaining balance of your Full Course Fee.
